Floor-to-ceiling sheer curtains diffusing daylight across a living room

Sheer curtains Brisbane & Gold Coast

Light Without The Whole Street

Custom sheer curtains in S fold, reverse pleat or pinch pleat, made to measure and fitted by the third generation of a family business trading since 1978. Through Brisbane, the Gold Coast and down to Byron Bay.

Why Lusso, Brisbane & Gold Coast

Sheers are the daytime half of a pair

One Window, Two Layers, Both Jobs Done

A sheer earns its place in the hours you are actually in the room: it takes the hard edge off the daylight, keeps the outlook and gives you privacy from the street without shutting the room down. After dark, with the lights on inside, that same weave stops being privacy — which is physics rather than a fault, and exactly why we specify a sheer as one half of a pair. One window, two layers, and neither of them compromised.

  • 01S fold, reverse pleat and pinch pleat headings, made to measure. The heading is what holds the fullness, and the fullness is what makes a sheer read as expensive.
  • 02Premium Australian-made fabric, and an honest conversation about which rooms actually need a blockout layer behind the sheer rather than a sheer on its own.
  • 03Forty-eight years and more than 10,000 completed projects across Brisbane and the Gold Coast — long enough to know how a sheer behaves in a room that is open to a deck all summer.
  • 04An itemised quote within 24 to 48 hours of the measure, valid for 30 days. Nothing is ordered until you are completely comfortable with the selections.

Glare off water is a different problem

The Light Here Comes Up As Well As Down

Anywhere with water in front of it gets light twice — once from the sky and once off the surface. That reflected light comes in low and from underneath, which is the one angle an eave cannot help with, and it is why so many Gold Coast apartments feel glary at times of day when the sun is nowhere near the window.

A sheer is the right answer to that because it diffuses rather than blocks: you keep the outlook and lose the hard edge. Pair it with glazing that is doing its share and a west-facing living room becomes usable without going dark.

The second thing is the breeze. A sheer in a room that opens onto a deck will move all summer, and a curtain that moves needs enough weight in the hem and enough clearance at the floor to do it without catching. It is a small detail that decides whether you like them in February.

The detail that matters

Fullness is the difference, and it is the line people cut

Two sheers in the same fabric, the same colour and the same track can look like different products. What separates them is how much fabric is in the curtain and how the heading holds it — and fullness is the first thing a cheap quote takes out.

01 — Fullness

How much fabric is actually in the curtain

A sheer is priced by the metre of fabric, not by the width of the window, so the quickest way to make a quote cheaper is to put less fabric in it. Skimp on fullness and the curtain hangs flat and thin no matter how good the cloth is. This is the number to compare between quotes, and it is the one most of them do not print.

02 — Heading

S fold, pinch pleat or reverse pleat

The heading sets the character. An S fold falls in even, continuous waves and reads modern; a pinch pleat is structured and traditional; a reverse pleat sits between the two and hides the fixing. We make all three. Which suits you is mostly about the room, and partly about how far the curtain has to stack back off the glass.

03 — Layering

The sheer is usually half of a pair

Sheers handle the day. For a bedroom, or any room you use after dark, you want a blockout layer behind on a separate track so the two work independently. Our sheer versus blockout comparison sets out when one is enough and when you genuinely need both.

Brisbane & Gold Coast clients

Beautiful, Soft And Quality

Curtains are the most personal thing in the range and the hardest to picture from a swatch, so the reviews worth reading are the ones about being listened to.

I love my curtains! Thank you Debbie for really listening to what I was after. They are beautiful, soft and quality. Thank you for your professionalism…

What we'd actually specify

01 Living areas

Where a sheer on its own genuinely works, because you are using the room in daylight. Take them floor to ceiling and past the glass on both sides — a sheer that stops at the reveal looks like a mistake.

Quote
02 Bedrooms

A sheer alone is not enough unless you wake at first light by choice. Put a blockout layer behind on its own track and you get both, independently.

03 Apartments & high-rise

The best case for sheers on this coast. They cut reflected glare off the water without giving up the outlook you paid for.

Quote
04 Rooms that open to a deck

Weight the hem and leave a little floor clearance. A sheer that drags will catch on the track of a sliding door every time it moves.

05 Studies & media rooms

Usually the wrong product. If you are fighting screen glare you want something you can close properly — look at roller blinds instead.

Before you ask

Sheer curtains — FAQs

How much do sheer curtains cost in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast?

Sheers are priced by fabric quantity, so the drop, the width and the fullness matter far more than the window looks like it should cost. A tall floor-to-ceiling run uses a great deal more cloth than a standard window. We will not quote before we have measured. You get an itemised quote within 24 to 48 hours, valid for 30 days.

Can you see through sheer curtains at night?

Yes. With the lights on inside and darkness outside, a sheer offers very little privacy — the light is travelling the other way. During the day it works exactly as you would hope. If the room is used after dark, specify a blockout layer behind the sheer on a separate track.

What is an S fold curtain?

S fold, also called wave or ripple fold, is a heading style where the fabric falls in even continuous waves rather than being gathered into pleats. It is the most contemporary of the three headings we make, and it needs a little more stack space beside the window than a pinch pleat does.

Should sheer curtains touch the floor?

Almost always, yes — a sheer that stops at the sill reads as unfinished. The exception is a room that opens onto a deck, where we leave a small clearance so the hem does not catch on the door track when the breeze moves it.

Can I have sheers and blockout curtains on the same window?

Yes, and for bedrooms it is what we usually recommend. They run on separate tracks so each works on its own — sheer during the day, blockout at night. Our comparison of the two goes through when the pair is worth it and when one will do.

Do you make sheer curtains for my suburb?

We work from Byron Bay to Brisbane, covering the Gold Coast, the Tweed Coast and the Brisbane inner suburbs, and we travel nationwide for larger projects. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call us on (07) 5528 4006 and we will tell you straight away.
