Why Lusso, Brisbane & Gold Coast

The one blind bought for what it does, not how it looks

Worth Every Cent On The Glass That Needs It

A honeycomb blind is a thermal product, and on a large west-facing pane of single glazing it makes a measurable difference to how the room feels at four in the afternoon. That is the window to spend it on. On a small, shaded, double-glazed window it is an expensive way to do what a roller blind would do for less — and we will tell you which of your windows is which.

  • 01The cell structure traps a layer of still air against the glass, which is what slows heat moving in during summer and out overnight.
  • 02The same construction absorbs sound, which is why they turn up in bedrooms facing a main road far more often than the brochures suggest.
  • 03Forty-eight years and more than 10,000 completed projects across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, so we will tell you honestly which of your windows justify the upgrade.
  • 04An itemised quote within 24 to 48 hours of the measure, valid for 30 days. Nothing is ordered until you are completely comfortable with the selections.

The range

Every honeycomb blind we make

Local conditions

Most of the heat here arrives through the glass

Single Glazing And A Western Wall

A great deal of the housing stock between Brisbane and the Gold Coast is single glazed, and glass is where the heat gets in. Glazing is one of the biggest thermal weak points in an Australian home, and on a western elevation in February a large single pane behaves like a radiator from about three in the afternoon.

A honeycomb blind is the only internal product that does much about that, because it holds still air against the glass rather than simply absorbing the light and re-radiating the heat into the room. It is not double glazing and we would not pretend otherwise, but on the wrong window it is the cheapest useful improvement available.

Where it is wasted is the small shaded window, the room that is air conditioned anyway, or any opening where the real problem is glare rather than heat. Those are roller blind windows, and it is not in our interest to say so, which is rather the point.

The detail that matters

The air in the blind is the product

Every other blind in the range works by stopping light. A honeycomb works by trapping air against the glass, which makes it the only one whose main job is thermal rather than visual.

01 — Cells

Trapped air, not thick fabric

The blind is built as a row of hollow cells that hold a layer of still air between the room and the glass. Still air is a poor conductor, which is the entire mechanism — it is the same principle as a double-glazed unit, at a fraction of the price and a fraction of the effect. Ask what the blind is for before you ask what it costs.

02 — Acoustics

The side benefit nobody quotes for

The same cell structure that slows heat also absorbs sound. It will not turn a bedroom facing a main road into a quiet one, but it takes the edge off in a way a single layer of fabric does not. If traffic noise is the actual complaint, mention it at the measure — it changes what we would recommend.

03 — Fit

A tight fit is what makes it work

The thermal benefit depends on trapping air, and air escapes around a badly fitted blind. Fitting inside the reveal with minimal side gaps does far more for performance than specifying a heavier fabric. This is a made-to-measure product for a reason, and it is why an off-the-shelf honeycomb is mostly decorative.

Brisbane & Gold Coast clients

Knowledge Of Their Products

Honeycomb blinds are usually recommended rather than requested, so these are clients who came in without a fixed idea and were talked through the options.

Jye and the team from Lusso were fantastic to deal with from our first meeting with them there knowledge of their products and expertise in understanding our needs for our new appartment was outstanding and would highly recommend them

Trevor

Thank you Debbie and your delightful boys and Nu. Great service, blinds and curtains exactly as I wanted. Couldn’t be happier

Maggie

Great to deal with and good price value

What we'd actually specify

01 West-facing rooms

The clearest case for the product. A large single-glazed western window is where a honeycomb earns back its premium over a roller, and where you will actually feel the difference.

Quote
02 Bedrooms

Blockout cells give you darkness and thermal performance together, and they take the edge off road noise. Sides still leak light, so pair with side channels if you sleep past sunrise.

Quote
03 Skylights & roof glass

Roof glass takes more sun than any wall window, and a honeycomb is one of the few things that fits and does something useful up there.

Quote
04 Air-conditioned rooms

Worth it if the room fights to hold temperature, wasted if it does not. Be honest about which yours is — a roller blind costs less and may be all you need.

05 Apartments

Often the only thermal improvement a body corporate will let you make, because nothing changes on the outside of the building.

Before you ask

Honeycomb blinds — FAQs

How much do honeycomb blinds cost in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast?

More than a roller blind of the same size, because the construction is more involved. Whether that premium is worth paying depends entirely on the window — large, western and single glazed says yes, small and shaded says no. We will not quote before we have measured, and you get an itemised quote within 24 to 48 hours, valid for 30 days.

What is the difference between honeycomb and cellular blinds?

Nothing. They are two names for the same product, and which one you hear depends on the supplier. Both describe a blind built from hollow cells that trap air against the glass.

Do honeycomb blinds really reduce heat?

On the right window, yes, and noticeably. The still air held in the cells slows heat moving through the glass in both directions. It is not equivalent to double glazing and anyone claiming that is overselling it, but on a large single-glazed western window it is the cheapest useful improvement you can make from inside.

Are honeycomb blinds good for noise?

They help. The cell structure absorbs sound in a way a single layer of fabric does not, which is why they suit bedrooms facing traffic. They will not soundproof a room, and if noise is your main problem it is worth saying so at the measure.

Can honeycomb blinds be blockout?

Yes. The cells can be made with a blockout fabric so you get darkness and thermal performance in the same blind. As with any blind fitted in a reveal, light still comes down the sides unless you add channels.

Do you fit honeycomb blinds in my suburb?

We work from Byron Bay to Brisbane, covering the Gold Coast, the Tweed Coast and the Brisbane inner suburbs, and we travel nationwide for larger projects. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call us on (07) 5528 4006 and we will tell you straight away.
