A pleated blind fitted across an angled window under a raked ceiling

Pleated blinds Brisbane & Gold Coast

For The Windows Nothing Else Fits

Custom pleated blinds for skylights, raked ceilings, gable ends and arches — the shapes a roller cannot sit flat against. Measured, templated and fitted across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and down to Byron Bay, by a family business trading since 1978.

Why Lusso, Brisbane & Gold Coast

A specialist blind, and the specialism is shape

Skylights, Rakes, Gables And Arches

A pleated blind is the only fabric blind we make that can be tensioned flat against glass that is not vertical, which is why it owns the shapes nothing else will fit: skylights, rakes, gable ends, arches, and any opening too shallow for a roller tube. What it does not do is insulate — so if your windows are ordinary rectangles and heat is the problem, we will point you at honeycomb blinds before you order.

  • 01Fitted between two fixed rails on tensioned wires or slim side channels, so the blind stays flat against glass that is not vertical.
  • 02The tightest stack of any fabric blind we make, which is what lets it work in a reveal too shallow for a roller tube.
  • 03Templated on site for anything that is not a rectangle. A raked gable end is measured as angles, not as a width and a drop.
  • 04An itemised quote within 24 to 48 hours of the measure, valid for 30 days — and an honest steer to a different product if that is the right answer.

Rakes, Gables And Skylights

Open the plans on almost any Gold Coast build from the last twenty years and you will find a raked ceiling with a gable end glazed to the apex, or a skylight dropped into a hallway that would otherwise be dark. They are there to catch light, and they catch rather more of it than anyone expected in January.

That is the brief a pleated blind was made for. Tensioned between two rails it follows the rake instead of hanging off it, and its stack is small enough to disappear into the head of the opening rather than sitting across the view.

It also has limits worth stating. Fabric high on a north or west elevation takes a beating from UV here, and a pleat that has been crushed does not recover. In a bathroom with poor extraction we will steer you to Thermalite shutters instead, and if the room is hot rather than bright, external shade will beat any internal blind — the Your Home guide to shading sets out why.

The detail that matters

A pleat is one layer of fabric. A cell is two, with air in between.

Every supplier in the country sells both pleated and honeycomb blinds, and almost none of them explains the difference, because explaining it loses the pleated sale about eight times out of ten. Here it is anyway.

01 — Structure

One layer, folded

A pleated blind is a single sheet of fabric heat-set into crisp folds and drawn up on cords through the pleats. Nothing is trapped inside it. That gives you the thinnest stack, the lightest weight and the cleanest line in an awkward shape — and no meaningful insulating value.

02 — Fit

The reason it survives on a rake

Because the blind is guided by side wires or slim channels rather than hanging from a tube, it can be tensioned between two rails at any angle, including horizontal. That is why skylights and raked gable ends are pleated-blind territory and not roller territory.

03 — Honesty

Buy it for the shape, not for the thermals

If the window is a normal vertical rectangle and you care about heat, buy a honeycomb blind. If you care about darkness, buy a blockout blind. Losing that sale costs us less than fitting the wrong product costs you.

Brisbane & Gold Coast clients

Exactly As I Wanted

No client has ever written us a review about a pleated blind specifically, and we are not about to invent one. These three are unedited, and they are about the part that carries over — the measure, the make and the fit.

Thank you Debbie and your delightful boys and Nu. Great service, blinds and curtains exactly as I wanted. Couldn't be happier

What We'd Actually Specify

01 Skylights

Motorised, almost always — a blind you cannot reach is a blind you never close. Blockout fabric if the skylight is over a bedroom, light-filtering if it is over a hallway you wanted bright in the first place.

Quote
02 Raked ceilings & gable ends

Templated on site and tensioned between two rails so the blind follows the angle. This is the job that justifies the product, and it is worth measuring twice.

Quote
03 Arched & shaped windows

A fixed pleated panel cut to the arch, usually paired with an operable blind below it. Fixed is not a compromise here — nobody adjusts the top of an arch.

Quote
04 Sunrooms & enclosed patios

A run of pleated blinds across sloped glazing takes the glare out of a room that was unusable at three in the afternoon. Pair it with external shade if heat, not light, is the problem.

Quote
05 Shallow reveals & narrow windows

Where there is not enough depth for a roller tube or enough width for a venetian. The stack is small enough to sit inside almost any reveal.

Where we work

Pleated blinds across

Brisbane and the Gold Coast

From Byron Bay to Brisbane, across the whole Gold Coast and inland to the hinterland. If you're anywhere on that stretch, we'll come to you.

If your windows are ordinary rectangles, honeycomb blinds or roller blinds will almost certainly serve you better, and we would rather say so here than at the quote.

Before you ask

Pleated blinds — FAQs

What is the difference between pleated blinds and honeycomb blinds?

One layer against two. A pleated blind is a single sheet of fabric folded into crisp pleats. A honeycomb blind is two layers joined into cells with air trapped between them, which is what gives it the insulating value. If you want the thermal performance, you want a honeycomb. If you want the thinnest possible stack in an awkward shape, a pleated blind is still the better tool.

Can you get blinds for angled or raked windows?

Yes, and this is where pleated blinds are genuinely hard to beat. The blind runs on tensioned side wires or in slim side channels between two fixed rails, so it stays flat against glass that is not vertical. A roller on a rake simply hangs away from the window.

Do skylight blinds keep the heat out?

They cut the direct sun and the glare, which in a Queensland skylight is most of the complaint. They do not stop the heat that has already come through the glass. External shading over the skylight does that, and if the room is genuinely unbearable in February we will tell you the blind is a partial answer.

How do you clean pleated blinds?

A soft brush or a vacuum on the lowest setting, along the pleats rather than across them. They do not enjoy being scrubbed, and a pleat that has been crushed does not come back. In a kitchen or a bathroom that is worth knowing before you choose the fabric.

Can pleated blinds be motorised?

On new orders, yes — it is specified when the blind is made, with the motor and hardware built in. On a skylight or a high raked window it is usually the only sensible way to operate the blind at all. We cannot generally add a motor to a blind that was not made for one.

How much do pleated blinds cost in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast?

Shape drives the price more than size. A rectangle is a rectangle; a raked gable end or a skylight run needs templating and custom hardware, and that is where the cost sits. We quote itemised within 24 to 48 hours of the measure, valid for 30 days.
