A dual bracket carries both fabrics on one window, which is why it is the system we fit most often: glare control and the view during the day, full privacy after dark. Blockout on its own is what nearly everyone asks for, and in a west-facing bedroom it is exactly right — everywhere else it is a habit, and you end up with a living room you have to light at ten in the morning. The dual costs less than replacing a blind you cannot see through.

Humidity Kills Blinds Before Sun Does
The sun on this coast arrives sideways. From about three in the afternoon it comes in under the eave rather than over it, which is why a north-west facing living room can be pleasant at noon and unusable by four. An eave is a shading device sized for summer noon, not for a low western sun, and a roller blind is the only thing that answers it without bricking up the view.
The second problem is the one nobody quotes for. Brisbane and the Gold Coast sit under months of high humidity, and humidity is what finishes a cheap roller blind long before the sun fades it. Chain mechanisms seize in an unconditioned bedroom. Fabric without a proper anti-fungal finish spots along the bottom bar in a bathroom, and once it has spotted it does not come back.
Which is why we ask which rooms have air conditioning before we quote fabric, and not after. Anyone who does not ask is quoting a catalogue, not your house.
The detail that matters
The fabric is the easy half of the decision
Every competitor page on this coast lists fabric ranges. None of them names the openness factor, explains which way the blind should roll, or mentions the safety standard the chain has to meet.
Sunscreen fabric is sold by how much of it is hole rather than thread — typically one, three, five or ten per cent. At one per cent you get privacy and a soft grey view. At ten you keep the view almost intact and give back a good deal of the glare. Pick the number, not the colour; the colour changes far less than the sales card suggests.
On a standard roll the fabric falls off the back of the tube and sits close to the glass. On a reverse roll it falls off the front, clearing window handles and deeper reveals at the cost of a wider light gap down each side. That gap is why a blockout roller is not a blackout blind — if you need true dark, you need side channels, and we would rather say so before you order than after. For a room where that matters, blockout blinds are the honest starting point.

It is not optional, it is not a premium extra, and it is the first thing we check on a rented or resold property where somebody has fitted blinds themselves.

Blockout, and this is the one room where we will argue for it. Ask for side channels if you sleep past sunrise — the fabric is not the problem, the two-centimetre gap either side of it is.

We will not put a figure on a window we have not measured, and anyone who does is quoting a different window. What drives the price is span, fabric grade and whether the blind is chain-driven or motorised — in that order. You get an itemised quote within 24 to 48 hours of the measure, valid for 30 days, so you can see exactly which of those three is costing you the money.
Lead time depends on the fabric and the size of the order, and we will give you a real date at the quote rather than a range. Made-to-measure blinds are cut for your openings, so nothing is sitting in a warehouse waiting to be shipped.
No, and it is worth being clear about it. A blockout fabric stops light passing through the fabric, but a roller blind sits inside or over a reveal and leaves a gap down each side. One per cent for privacy, ten per cent to keep the view, three and five per cent for everything in between. In a west-facing room we usually land on three: enough glare control to use the room at four in the afternoon, enough transparency that it still reads as a window.
Usually, yes. Battery-driven motors avoid running new cable through a finished wall, which matters in an apartment or a rendered home. We will talk through whether a battery or a hardwired motor suits the opening, and what each costs, before you commit to either.
