Why Lusso, Brisbane & Gold Coast

One company measures it, makes it and hangs it

Buy The Installation, Not Just The Blind

Choosing the fabric is the enjoyable part, and it does matter. But whether you are still happy in five years gets settled in about ninety seconds on install day, by whoever is on the ladder deciding what to drill into. That is the part we will not hand to somebody else.

  • 01We measure, make and fit every blind we supply. One company on the job, so a fault never turns into a conversation between two of them.
  • 02Installation workmanship is warranted for 12 months from the day it goes up, and the product carries its manufacturer's warranty — 12 months to 7 years depending on the system, componentry and fabric.
  • 03We are members of the Window Shading Association of Australia, which sets the Code of Ethics and the child-safety and fire-compliance standards this trade runs on.
  • 04More than 10,000 projects completed across Brisbane and the Gold Coast since 1978. We have almost certainly met your wall type before.

Timber batten fixed above a window opening between ceiling joists

Local conditions

South East Queensland walls are their own problem

Nothing Here Is A Standard Fix

Most homes between Brisbane and Coolangatta have aluminium windows with a reveal too shallow to take a recess-fitted blind. So the blind gets face-fixed to the wall above the opening instead — and that wall is plasterboard. Where the bracket lands relative to the timber behind it is the entire job.

The building stock either side of that is no easier. Post-war Queenslanders and VJ-lined walls have very little to bite into exactly where you want a bracket, and a beachfront tower from Main Beach to Broadbeach is concrete or steel — a different anchor, a different drill, and a hole you cannot move once it is there.

Salt air finishes the story. On a Currumbin or Palm Beach frontage the fabric routinely outlives the screws holding it up, which is not the failure anyone budgets for.

The detail that matters

What Is Behind The Plasterboard

Every competitor on this search will tell you their installers are professional and insured. Not one of them tells you what the blind is being screwed into, which is the only variable that decides whether it is still square in five years. Here is what we settle before the drill comes out.

01 — Substrate

Find the timber, or put some there

A bracket fixed into plasterboard alone will fail. Not might — will, on a timescale set by how often you use the blind. We fix into the nogging, the stud or the head of the window frame, and where there is nothing in the right place we fit a timber batten across the opening and fix into that. It adds a step, and it is the difference between a blind and a repair job.

02 — Reveal

Recess or face fix is measured, not guessed

A recess fit sits the blind inside the opening and looks tidiest, but it needs real depth for the brackets and the roll, and most aluminium reveals here do not have it. A face fix goes on the wall, wide of the opening, and blocks more light as a result. We measure the reveal at the check-measure and tell you which one you are getting before you order — not on the day, standing in your lounge room.

03 — Cord safety

The cleat goes on the wall, at install

Australia has a mandatory standard for corded internal window coverings, and the part that actually keeps a child safe — the cleat or tensioner that takes a loose cord out of reach — is fixed to the wall by the installer on the day. A blind does not arrive with that sorted. Tell us at the measure if there are small children in the house and we will specify cordless or motorised instead.

Brisbane & Gold Coast clients

The installers are the part people remember

Read the reviews of any window furnishings company and the fabric barely rates a mention. What people write about is who turned up, whether it went up straight, and whether it still works. Three of ours, on exactly that.

I would highly recommend lusso for all your window covering requirements. They are a truly professional group providing great customer service together with expert installers you can't go wrong

Liz Saunders

We are very happy with our sun blinds, they are very effective in keeping sun and glare out. The installers were very professional and we would have no problems recommending Lusso blinds to anyone.

Lyell Crapper

We could not have been happier with the service we received from Deb & Lusso. She was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and gave us clear direction. They followed through on absolutely everything discussed and the installation went off without a hitch.

Where The Fixing Changes

01 Bedrooms

Blockout roller or blockout roman, face-fixed and run wide of the opening on both sides. Light escapes around a blind rather than through it, so the overlap is worth more to you than the next fabric grade up.

Quote
02 Living and dining

The widest openings in the house and the ones most often got wrong. A single very wide roller sags in the middle; two blinds sharing a centre bracket run truer and give you a join you can live with.

Quote
03 Kitchens and bathrooms

Fabric and moisture are a poor combination. In a bathroom we would rather fit Thermalite shutters than anything with a fabric drop, and in a kitchen a sunscreen roller kept well clear of the cooktop.

Quote
04 Stairwells and high windows

The ones nobody measures properly. You will not reach a chain up there, so it wants a wand or a motor — and the fixing sits above head height, where a plasterboard failure has considerably further to fall.

Quote
05 Balconies and alfresco

Outdoor blinds fix into the structure, not the lining, and on the coast the fixings have to survive salt air. This is the job where we most often add a batten or a fixing plate rather than trust what is already there.

Before you ask

Blind installation questions

How much does blind installation cost in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast?

There is no honest number before somebody has measured. Installation is included in the price of the blinds we make, so what you are quoted is the finished job on the wall — not a supply price with a fitting fee bolted on afterwards. The quote is itemised component by component, it costs nothing, and it stands for 30 days. If an opening needs a batten or a different anchor, that is priced on the quote before you accept it, not raised as a variation on the day.

Do you install blinds I bought somewhere else?

No. We install what we make. That sounds like turning work away, and it is — but we warrant our installation for 12 months, and we cannot stand behind a bracket, a roll size or a chain we did not specify. If your blinds came from somewhere else and just need hanging, a handyman is the right call and will cost you less. If they came from us and something has gone wrong, ring us.

How long does it take to get blinds measured, made and installed?

Most run 2 to 3 weeks from check-measure to installation — roller, venetian, vertical, pleated and honeycomb. Roman and panel glide are 3 to 4 weeks. Motorisation adds about a week, and more if power has to be run to the opening. The date goes on your quote rather than appearing after you have paid a deposit. They are good-faith estimates, not a guarantee.

Can you install blinds into plasterboard?

Yes, but never into plasterboard alone. We fix into the nogging, the stud or the head of the window frame behind the lining, and where there is nothing useful in the right place we fit a timber batten across the opening first. A bracket held by plasterboard anchors on their own will pull out eventually. We have been called out to more than one track that came out of a ceiling six months after someone else installed it.

Can you install before handover on a new build?

Yes, and it is worth asking early. We work with builders, architects and designers regularly. We need the openings finished and the walls lined before the check-measure, because the numbers move once architraves and sills go on, so lock-up is the sensible time to call. That way the lead time runs while the other trades finish rather than after they have packed up.

Is the installation warranted?

We warrant our installation workmanship for 12 months from the date of installation, and the products carry their manufacturer's warranty — between 12 months and 7 years depending on the system, componentry and fabric. Which period applies to your job is stated on your quote. The warranty covers our work. It does not cover fading, storm damage, salt-air corrosion, or somebody else altering the installation later.

Which suburbs do you install in?

Byron Bay to Brisbane, and the whole Gold Coast in between — Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach, Robina, Southport, Main Beach, Hope Island, Nerang and Helensvale, and across to New Farm, Ascot, Hamilton, Bulimba, Paddington and Toowong. We travel further for larger projects. We are open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:00pm.
